All you need to know about Data Recovery

Data loss is an unavoidable and unpredictable event and it can happen to anyone. Be it your Personal Computer or your professional computing system; odds are many, if not all, of us have faced this problem and long for a perfect deleted file recovery method. What is it about this phenomenon that makes it so mysterious and disastrous in the digital age?

In the realm of business specifically, the term ‘big data’ is catching on so quickly that even scientists are baffled with how to cope with its complex and critical nature. Every day, new kinds of electronic data in the form of content or analytical information are being created by individuals and businesses. Traditionally, we store this data on physical disks and we have recently learned that it’s important to always have a backup. But even these data management tools are subject to failure and as a result, you may lose all the information you hold dear or vital to yourself or your business.

We know that data recovery once it is lost is highly unlikely unless we know the right program to use in the circumstances we are facing. E.g. a program designed specifically for lost photo recovery or a different one for deleted file recovery (or document recovery). In order to know the best way to recover data, the most important question is how you lost it in the first place. What happened that information is now gone?

You can lose data because of one or more reasons mentioned below:
Hardware Malfunction: This problem is as old as the first computer. All kinds of storage media are susceptible to high failure rates and not being able to detect these failures in advance can cost you your assets.

Software Corruption: This is kind of failure leads to absolute obliteration of data. Defects in software or system are very critical because they almost always go unnoticed for long periods.

Human errors: We humans have a predisposed tendency to ignore principles. This is the most common reason for data loss. A few of the cases can be an appalling reboot of systems, accidental deletion of data, etc.

Computer viruses: This is most common with systems that do not have firewall or anti-virus software. But, even with these services installed you can still face a virus problem. Viruses do not just damage data, but also your operating system.

This is why it’s relevant to data recovery & data recovery tools you should use:
1. If you face data loss due to hard drive failure and your failed disk is the one you use to boot your system, you should never try to boot from this drive until you get your data recovered by professionals who offer data recovery services. If you try to reboot your system, it will damage your data beyond recovery. You should also avoid running data recovery tools on a failed hard drive.

2. If the problem is related to any type of software or system corruption, you can use data recovery software to retrieve your lost data. There are many options available and you can still get done from a data recovery service provider. However, while recovering your files, it is advisable to save them on an external drive to avoid overwriting.

3. In the case of bad sectors or malware infection, it is suggested that you do not use data recovery software. The process will result in damaging the sectors further or restoring the malware and in-turn reducing the probability of data recovery.

4. Never attempt opening your drive by yourself. A drive should always be opened in a sterilized environment. You may end up damaging the magnets in your disk and losing all your data.

FACT 1: Companies that experience major catastrophes go out of business in about three years. In contrast, businesses which come across serious IT failure shut-down within a year of data loss.

FACT 2: Majority of individual data recovery requests are for photo recovery.
